FG moves to strengthen women’s health services

The Nigerian Federal Government, through the Ministry of Health and the OSSAP-WH, is implementing strategies to improve women's health services across the nation.

The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking significant steps to enhance women's health services by coordinating efforts through the Federal Ministry of Health and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH). Senior Special Assistant Dr. Adanna Steinacker shared these developments during a meeting with women leaders and representatives from various women’s organizations and NGOs in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing women’s health in national agenda.

Dr. Steinacker highlighted the adoption of a nationwide approach aimed at addressing the various challenges that affect Nigerian women’s health. The OSSAP-WH, which was recently launched by President Bola Tinubu, is positioned to play a crucial role in ensuring that women's health policies are integrated into broader national planning. This initiative, under the mandate "RenewHER," aims to promote health equity and reforms specific to women's health needs through collaborative efforts.

The meeting served as a platform for discussing pressing issues faced by women in Nigeria and for strategizing actionable steps toward enhancing healthcare services tailored to them. By engaging with a diverse coalition of women’s leaders, the government seeks to ensure that policies implemented not only address existing health disparities but also empower women within the health system, thereby significantly improving overall health outcomes for the female population in Nigeria.
