Presidency, ministry partner to prioritise women’s health
The Nigerian government is coordinating efforts between the Federal Ministry of Health and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to prioritize women's health issues in the country.
In a recent initiative, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, along with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, have embarked on a collaborative effort to tackle challenges facing women's health in Nigeria. During a meeting convened in Abuja, Dr. Adanna Steinacker, the Senior Special Assistant, emphasized the importance of a coordinated strategy to ensure women's health is a central focus in national development plans. This meeting included key stakeholders such as women leaders and NGOs, highlighting the government's recognition of the critical role these groups play in promoting women's health initiatives.
Dr. Steinacker also shared details about the OSSAP-WH, which was officially launched by President Bola Tinubu on September 11, 2025, as part of a broader mandate known as RenewHER. This initiative aims to integrate and reform health policies to enhance health equity and address the specific needs of women across Nigeria. By outlining this strategic plan, the government seeks to improve health outcomes for women and ensure their well-being is prioritized in all health-related policymaking.
The partnership between the presidency and the health ministry marks a significant step toward addressing systemic issues affecting women's health. With aspirations to bolster health services and support systems for women, this initiative reflects a growing awareness and commitment by the Nigerian government to enhance women's rights and health access, thereby contributing to the overall development and empowerment of women in society.
