Municipality of Athens - Hellenic Cancer Society: Joining forces for prevention and support of cancer patients
The Municipality of Athens pairs with the Hellenic Cancer Society to implement a comprehensive network of prevention and information actions for cancer care.
The Municipality of Athens has initiated a partnership with the Hellenic Cancer Society (E.A.E.) to roll out a comprehensive network aimed at cancer prevention and support for oncology patients. Mayor Charis Dukas and E.A.E. President Evangelos Philopoulos solidified their strategic alliance by signing a memorandum of cooperation focused on prevention, health education promotion, and daily support for patients and their caregivers.
This memorandum outlines various concrete actions designed to assist vulnerable groups within the community. Among the initiatives are free screenings including mammograms, Pap smears, and dermatological checks, as well as spirometry tests to identify any health issues early. A critical aspect of the collaboration is the provision of psychosocial support and home care for oncology patients, ensuring they receive specialized care right in their homes, which can significantly reduce the emotional and physical strain associated with cancer treatment.
The alliance aims not only to provide immediate health services but also to build a supportive network that extends education and resources throughout the neighborhoods of Athens. By enhancing health literacy and accessibility, the Municipality and the Hellenic Cancer Society aspire to empower individuals and families affected by cancer, thereby improving their overall quality of life and health outcomes in the community.
