Azcapotzalco, among the boroughs with the least high-impact crimes in Mexico City
Azcapotzalco is recognized as one of the safest boroughs in Mexico City, showing a significant drop in high-impact crimes per recent statistics.
According to figures presented by the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, Azcapotzalco ranks among the boroughs with the least high-impact crimes in Mexico City as of December 2025. The report indicates that Azcapotzalco closed December 2025 with only 243 active investigation files for high-impact crimes, compared to neighboring boroughs like Cuauhtémoc, which had 764, Gustavo A. Madero with 598, and Miguel Hidalgo with 256, making Azcapotzalco the safest borough in the region.
This trend is further supported by a sustained decrease in crime rates observed since 2015, which has reached its lowest level in 2025, with investigation files dropping from 5,891 to 3,421. These statistics imply a significant improvement in public safety in the borough, suggesting successful implementation of safety measures and crime prevention strategies over the years.
The positive crime figures in Azcapotzalco can be attributed to effective coordination among federal, state, and local security forces, enhancing the response to crime and improving safety for residents. This achievement not only reflects local governance effectiveness but may also serve as a model for other boroughs in Mexico City challenged with higher crime rates.
