VSD warns residents not to succumb to Belarusian intelligence provocations

The Lithuanian State Security Department has issued a warning against a Belarusian KGB video circulating on social media that attempts to provoke residents into contacting the foreign agency.

The Lithuanian State Security Department (VSD) has alerted the public about a provocative video spreading on social media, allegedly produced by the Belarusian KGB. The video, presented in Lithuanian, discusses grievances towards government injustices and offers individuals a 'secure channel' to discuss these issues with the Belarusian KGB. VSD emphasized that citizens should not engage with this provocation, as doing so could involve them in harmful foreign activities and expose them to severe criminal liability.

In its statement, VSD highlighted the ongoing tactics employed by Russian and Belarusian intelligence agencies, particularly their use of social media platforms to seek out potential agents, conduct recruitment, and maintain connections with these individuals. The agency's warning underscores the vulnerability that citizens may face in the digital landscape, where foreign entities can exploit their concerns and dissatisfaction with local governance for malicious purposes.

Furthermore, VSD encourages anyone who suspects they are being targeted for recruitment or believe their organization may be under surveillance by hostile foreign intelligence to report such suspicions to the Lithuanian authorities. By doing so, individuals can receive assistance in assessing the legitimacy of their concerns, and timely reporting can prevent potential recruitment efforts, thereby safeguarding national security.
