Paraense student participates in one of the largest UN simulations in the USA: 'Experience that broadens our worldview'
A student from Pará, Brazil, participated in the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN), an international student forum that focuses on diplomacy, negotiation, and leadership.
A 16-year-old student from Pará, Brazil, named Paula Araújo, recently took part in one of the largest simulations of the United Nations, held at Harvard University in Boston. The event, known as the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN), attracts about 7,000 participants from approximately 50 countries, emphasizing diplomacy and leadership skills essential for the next generation of global leaders. This experience allowed Paula to explore career possibilities she had not previously considered, highlighting the transformative impact such forums can have on young individuals.
Paula represented her country as part of the 'Overseas' delegation from the Serviço Social da Indústria (Sesi) in Pará, alongside other students from São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Over five days, participants acted as international delegates, engaging in debates and negotiations that simulated real-world challenges faced by diplomats. This immersive experience is not just a learning opportunity, but a career-inspiring moment that can significantly influence participants' understanding and approach to global issues.
Furthermore, the exposure to an international environment fosters a greater awareness of how different cultures work together in addressing global challenges. Such experiences are crucial for students like Paula, who aim to have a future impact on international relations and development, as they learn to think critically and appreciate diverse viewpoints in a collaborative setting.
