After cattle theft valued at over R$ 600 thousand, police discover that animals would be taken for rodeo and slaughter in MG
A cattle theft in Estrela do Sul, Brazil, involving 110 heads of cattle valued at over R$ 600,000, led police to uncover plans for the animals to be used in a rodeo and sold for slaughter.
In Estrela do Sul, in the TriΓ’ngulo Mineiro region of Brazil, 110 heads of cattle were stolen from a farm, with the total value exceeding R$ 600,000. The investigation by the Civil Police revealed that the animals were intended to be sold to a rodeo company, while those deemed unsuitable for competition would be sold clandestinely for slaughter. The incident has raised concerns regarding cattle rustling and its implications for the local farming community.
On Monday, a rancher reported the theft to the police, leading to the recovery of nine cattle, valued at about R$ 45,000. This recovery followed the rancher's tip-off regarding the livestock's theft from his herd of approximately 2,500 heads of cattle. The police noted that the criminals attempted to hide the original branding of the cattle by overlaying another mark but were ultimately unsuccessful as the cattle were identified by their rightful owner.
As of now, no arrests have been made in relation to the theft, though an employee of the stolen farm has been questioned and released after already being present at the scene during the theft. The investigation continues, with one of the suspects admitting involvement in the crime, raising the possibility of further leads and arrests as the police delve deeper into the case and its connection to organized crime in the region.
