Aussie fans miss out on World Cup tickets as prices skyrocket
Australian fans are frustrated after missing out on FIFA World Cup tickets amid soaring prices.
Australian fans of the FIFA World Cup are expressing their disappointment after failing to secure tickets during the recent ballot draw. Despite participating in FIFA's third round ballot and trying to purchase tickets via Football Australia's FA+ program, many fans were left empty-handed. The price of tickets has significantly increased, leading to frustration among those who had high hopes of attending the matches.
Patrick Clancy, chairman of Football Supporters Australia, highlighted the discontent, noting that numerous fans either did not receive the quantity of tickets they desired or received none at all. Many fans were looking forward to watching the World Cup, set to take place in Mexico, Canada, and the United States this June and July, as part of a lifelong dream. The news comes as a significant letdown to dedicated supporters of the sport who have invested not just in tickets but also in the associated costs of travel and accommodation.
One notable example of disappointment is Sydney exercise physiologist Steven Kapellos, a long-time football enthusiast and player. He applied for tickets to six matches, including the highly anticipated games featuring Australia’s Socceroos. His overwhelming enthusiasm is echoed by many others who have created plans to travel internationally for the event, adjusting their budgets and commitments to be there in person. Without tickets, for many fans, the excitement of the World Cup has turned into a bitter experience, questioning the accessibility and affordability of attending such a major global sporting event.
