A. Veryga: the farmers essentially support the establishment of the polygon

Health Minister A. Veryga states that there is a consensus among political colleagues regarding the need for a military polygon in Lithuania, emphasizing the importance of addressing residents' concerns about damages.

In a recent interview, Lithuanian Health Minister A. Veryga spoke about the broad agreement among political colleagues on the necessity of establishing a military training polygon in Kapčiamiestis, noting that discussions have addressed the various arguments about the chosen location. Veryga emphasized that there is ongoing dialogue about the criticisms surrounding how the decisions were made, which he believes are constructive and lead to greater clarity for residents regarding compensation issues related to their properties and damages from the new military site.

Veryga referenced his colleague Dainius Gaižauskas, a member of the National Security and Defense Committee, who has been deeply involved in discussions about the polygon. Gaižauskas has raised certain criticisms about the decision-making process, but noting that this critique is part of a healthy working dynamic that ultimately benefits the community by highlighting compensation details and the recognition of residence issues.

The Ministry of National Defense recently announced that in assessing the territorial area designated for the polygon, particularly the shooting zone, they will consider either the restoring or comparative property value for local residences when determining compensation. This approach aims to ensure that residents are fairly compensated, which indicates that the government is attempting to address the potential negative impacts on local inhabitants while proceeding with military developments.
