No injuries as Somali passenger plane veers off runway after crash-landing

A Somali passenger plane carrying 55 people veered off the runway during an emergency landing but fortunately resulted in no injuries.

A passenger plane carrying 55 individuals, including crew, veered off the runway at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia, while attempting an emergency landing on Tuesday. The incident occurred shortly after take-off when the pilot communicated a mechanical issue 15 minutes into the flight and requested to return for a landing. Unfortunately, the aircraft, a Fokker 50, overran the runway and came to rest on the shoreline, partially submerged in the Indian Ocean.

Miraculously, there were no injuries reported among the passengers. The quick actions of the pilot have been commendably acknowledged by Starsky Aviation CEO Ahmed Nur, who stated that the crew handled the situation professionally. The operational communication with the control tower was seamless, allowing for a priority landing on runway two three. Despite the airplane suffering damage, including a broken wing and nose, the effective management during the incident ensured the safety of all on board.

Transportation Minister Mohamed Farah Nuh has also weighed in, praising the pilot’s judgment and quick thinking, which were pivotal in preventing a potential disaster. As the investigation into the incident progresses, this episode reveals the critical importance of effective flight and emergency management protocols in aviation, especially in regions where air travel can be inherently risky due to technical and environmental factors.
