A passenger plane with 55 people onboard made an emergency water landing off the coast of Somalia after developing a technical problem shortly after takeoff.
A Starsky Aviation passenger plane, carrying 55 individuals, had to make an emergency water landing off the coast of Somalia after experiencing a technical issue shortly after departing from Aden Abdulle International Airport, which was intended for a flight to Gaalkacyo. While attempting to return to Mogadishu’s airport, the aircraft veered off the runway and landed in the ocean near the shore, resulting in a dramatic emergency situation for passengers and crew.
Fortunately, all 50 passengers and 5 crew members evacuated the aircraft without any injuries reported. The quick response from the rescue teams, supported by officials including Ambassador Mouktar Osman Karie of the African Union's mission in Somalia, ensured that everyone on board was accounted for and safely brought to shore. The incident drew significant attention, highlighting the importance of safety protocols and emergency preparedness in aviation, especially in regions with complex operational challenges.
Following the incident, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the technical failure and the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing, which could lead to implications for air travel safety regulations in Somalia. This event underscores the risks involved in domestic air travel within the country and the need for stringent safety measures to be in place to protect passengers.
