Construction of Rovaniemi's new police station begins in spring - cost 61 million euros

The construction of a new police station in Rovaniemi, Finland, has been approved with a budget of 61 million euros and is set to begin in spring 2024.

Construction of a new main police station in Rovaniemi is set to begin in April or May 2024, following the approval from the Finnish government. The project received a green light from both the Ministry of the Interior and the state council’s committee on financial affairs, with the total estimated cost reaching 61 million euros. The new facility will be located near the city center, in the Jääskeläinen area, and is scheduled to be completed by autumn 2028.

The current police headquarters is situated in Rovaniemi's municipal building, which is in poor condition and outdated. There have been complaints of indoor air quality issues affecting police personnel, with ongoing investigations into the source of these complaints. In light of these problems, there has been a pressing need for a modern facility that can adequately serve the local police force.

Prior to the completion of the new building, police operations will temporarily relocate to a three-story modular building near the bus station, which will accommodate working spaces for about 100 officers. This interim solution reflects the urgency of addressing the current facility's inadequacies while the new construction is underway, ensuring that police services are not disrupted during the transition period.
