South Korea and the Netherlands held their inaugural high-level diplomatic and industrial dialogue to discuss cooperation in semiconductors and AI.

On December 11, the inaugural high-level diplomatic and industrial dialogue between South Korea and the Netherlands took place in Seoul. The meeting was attended by South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin and Commerce Minister Yeo Han-goo alongside Dutch Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Liesje Schreinemacher. This strategic dialogue comes after an agreement between the two nations to strengthen their partnership in key technological sectors, including semiconductors and AI.

The discussions focused on the changing global geopolitical landscape and the rise of protectionism, with both sides evaluating their economic security strategies. They deliberated over enhancing cooperation in areas such as AI, cyber technology, emerging technologies, and the semiconductor industry, crucial for modern economies. The South Korean Foreign Ministry expressed that the meeting reflects a commitment to handle diplomatic, economic, and industrial issues with an organic and integrated approach given the current international challenges.

Concluding the meeting, the two countries adopted a joint statement which reflects their intention to strengthen strategic collaboration by closely linking their semiconductor ecosystems. They have also scheduled the next high-level dialogue to occur in two years in The Hague, emphasizing their commitment to long-term partnership in strategic technology sectors.
