Consortium wins alone the auction for the train system in RJ
A consortium has won the auction for the operation of Rio de Janeiro's urban train system, becoming the only bidder and offering a minimal tariff discount.
A consortium made up of the investment funds Nova Via and Magna has emerged as the sole winner of an auction to operate Rio de Janeiro's urban train system, as announced by the state government on Tuesday, October 10. This auction was particularly significant as the current operator, SuperVia, which is controlled by Japan's Mitsui, has been under judicial recovery since mid-2021, indicating serious financial instability that has affected its operations. The consortium was the only group to submit a proposal during the judicial auction held earlier on the same day, offering a marginal discount of just 0.06% on the proposed fare of R$ 17.60, highlighting the precarious situation of the bidding process.
