Auction to choose a replacement for Supervia in the operation of trains in RJ will take place this Tuesday
A judicial auction to select a new operator for the urban train system in Rio de Janeiro, replacing SuperVia, is scheduled for Tuesday, with an estimated contract value of R$ 660 million.
The judicial auction that will determine the new operator of the urban train system in the state of Rio de Janeiro is set for Tuesday, as announced by the 6th Business Court of the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Justice. This auction is part of a judicial recovery process aimed at reforming the management and operation of the railway system previously overseen by SuperVia, which has faced significant operational challenges.
The Brazilian State Government, through the State Transport and Mobility Secretariat (Setram), has estimated the contract value at R$ 660 million, granting the winning bid a five-year initial operating permit, which can be renewed for another five years. The auction process is designed to encourage competitive bidding, with the winning bid determined by the largest discount offered on a pre-established base tariff of R$ 17.60 per car/kilometer, emphasizing cost efficiency as a priority in the selection of the new operator.
This restructuring of the railway operations is crucial for enhancing public transport in Rio de Janeiro, especially as the urban train system serves a significant portion of the population. The decision to replace SuperVia reflects broader concerns over performance and accountability in public transport services, highlighting the need for efficient management and investment in infrastructure to meet the demands of commuters in the region.
