Petrobras fuel sales grow in 2025 with support from imports
Petrobras has increased fuel sales in Brazil in 2025 compared to the previous year, aided by a rise in imports despite a decline in domestic production.
In 2025, Petrobras reported a significant increase in fuel sales within the Brazilian market, selling 1.747 million barrels per day (bpd) of derivatives, marking an increase of 1.6% from 2024. This uptick in sales was largely attributed to imported fuels, compensating for a decline in local production. The demand for key products such as diesel, gasoline, and aviation kerosene drove this growth, with these three categories making up 74% of total sales. The rise is indicative of the strong recovery and demand in the Brazilian economy, particularly in transportation and agricultural sectors.
The most notable growth was observed in diesel sales, which are the most commonly sold fuel in Brazil. Sales increased by 5.2% to reach 763,000 bpd, a direct reflection of heightened economic activity and increased agricultural outputs, which necessitated greater fuel consumption for transportation and farming operations. Similarly, gasoline sales recorded a 2% increase, contributing to the overall positive trend in fuel consumption across the country.
This data points to an important shift within Petrobras and the Brazilian energy landscape, where reliance on imports has become a crucial part of meeting domestic fuel demands, especially in the wake of declining local production capacities. The overall increase in fuel sales not only indicates an economic rebound but also highlights strategic adjustments within Petrobras to utilize imports more effectively, positioning the company to cater to the needs of a changing market and consumer behaviors in 2025.
