National Assembly approves Law for Strengthening Cybersecurity
The Ecuadorian National Assembly has approved a comprehensive cybersecurity law aimed at modernizing national cybersecurity architecture and protecting critical infrastructure.
On February 10, 2026, the Ecuadorian National Assembly, with 82 votes from various political factions including the ruling Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) and the Partido Social Cristiano (PSC), approved the Organic Law for Strengthening Cybersecurity. This significant legislative move comes after a second debate held in the Security Committee, reflecting a collaborative effort among diverse political groups, including independents and former members of other parties.
The new law represents a substantial reform to existing legal frameworks, impacting various laws such as the Organic Law of Digital and Audiovisual Transformation, the Organic Law of Intercultural Education, and the Organic Telecommunications Law, among others. The aim of these reforms is to create a modern national cybersecurity architecture that enhances digital governance and safeguards critical infrastructure. This comprehensive approach demonstrates Ecuador's commitment to improving its cybersecurity posture amid increasing digital threats.
The implementation of this law is expected to bolster the country's ability to maintain continuity of essential services and protect vital digital infrastructure. As nations worldwide increasingly face cyber threats, Ecuador's proactive stance on cybersecurity demonstrates its recognition of the importance of robust defenses in the digital space, paving the way for further advancements in national security and public service reliability.
