RJ-124 is expected to receive nearly 413 thousand vehicles heading to the Lakes Region during Carnival holiday
The RJ-124 highway is expected to see heavy traffic with nearly 413,000 vehicles during the 2026 Carnival holiday.
The RJ-124 highway, which serves as the main access to the Lakes Region of Brazil, is anticipated to experience intensified traffic during the Carnival holiday period. Authorities predict that over 413,000 vehicles will navigate this route, particularly on the days leading to the beaches and the return trip to Rio de Janeiro after the festivities. The key days of congestion are expected to be Saturday, when holiday-goers head towards the coast, and Ash Wednesday, when they return to the city.
To manage this influx of traffic, CCR ViaLagos, the company responsible for the RJ-124, has announced a special operational plan to ensure a smooth journey for drivers. This plan includes enhanced services for motorists, along with continuous monitoring throughout the holiday weekend. Teams will be on standby around the clock, equipped with inspection vehicles, tow trucks, and ambulances stationed at strategic locations along the highway to provide support as needed.
In addition, real-time traffic updates will be facilitated through the strategic use of cameras and electronic panels, allowing for better management of traffic flow and ensuring the safety of all travelers. This preparation reflects the understanding of the heavy movement typical during this festive period, aiming to mitigate potential delays and improve the overall travel experience for those heading to the popular Beaches of the Lakes Region.
