Helsinki sells Haltiala farm

The city of Helsinki has unanimously decided to sell the Haltiala farm to Lännentila Oy, which won a concept competition organized by the city.

The Helsinki Urban Environment Committee has taken a unanimous decision to sell the Haltiala farm, a popular family-friendly farm, to Lännentila Oy, which emerged victorious in a competition for concepts related to the farm. The new owner plans to maintain the farm's unique rural atmosphere and align its operations with the area's history and spirit. Notably, the Haltiala farm will continue to be free to visit, preserving its accessibility for families and the community.

In addition to maintaining the existing farm attractions, Lännentila Oy has ambitious plans for development that include adding saunas, a flatbread pizzeria, a café for cross-country skiers, and a play park. This development aims to enhance the visitor experience and expand the offerings at the farm, making it a more versatile destination for both locals and tourists. The plans come in light of the recent discussions and controversies surrounding the farm, especially concerning rumors about the slaughter of its animals.

Furthermore, the sale comes after the termination of the lease for the well-known Wanha Pehtoori restaurant that had been located on-site for decades, paving the way for new ownership and changes at the farm. The restaurant had also participated in the concept competition but was not selected as the new operator, indicating a significant shift in the management and vision for Haltiala in the coming years.
