Police recover 554 stolen animals, weapons in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command reported the recovery of 554 stolen animals and weapons following a clash with bandits in Kafur Local Government Area.
The Katsina State Police Command has announced the successful recovery of 554 stolen animals following an operation to thwart a cattle rustling incident in the Kafur Local Government Area. On February 6, 2026, security forces were alerted to an armed robbery where bandits had stormed Sabuwar Kasa village, rustling cattle and firing weapons indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. In response, the police deployed operatives, who worked alongside military personnel and local community watch groups to pursue and engage the suspects.
The operation involved a coordinated effort to track down the bandits, and police spokesperson DSP Aliyu Abubakar reported that the situation escalated into a fierce gun battle, ultimately leading to the dispersal of the criminals due to the tactical superiority of the law enforcement team. This successful intervention not only recovered the stolen animals but also highlighted ongoing issues with cattle rustling and armed banditry in the region, which continues to pose significant challenges to local communities and law enforcement.
The incident underscores the persistent threat of banditry in Nigeria's northern states, where clashes between herders and criminal gangs have become increasingly common. The effective collaboration between police, military, and community resources showcases a proactive approach to curbing such violent crime, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and cooperation among security forces in addressing rural crime in Nigeria.
