Children in England ‘bombarded’ with online ads for harmful products

A study reveals that children in England are frequently exposed to harmful products through online advertisements, including weight-loss drugs and steroid offerings.

A recent study commissioned by the children's commissioner for England highlights the alarming frequency with which children and teenagers are exposed to harmful products online, such as weight-loss drugs, steroids, and skin-whitening chemicals. It was revealed that a significant number of teenagers aged 13 to 17 had encountered these products while using social media, gaming, and mobile applications. Specifically, 41% of teenagers reported seeing prescription-only weight-loss drugs, 27% reported seeing skin-whitening creams that may be toxic, and 24% had been exposed to steroids and muscle-building drugs, despite many of these products being prohibited for those under 18.
