Accused ex-teacher of raping 89 minors in 10 countries: the terrifying investigation shaking France
A former teacher has been accused of sexually assaulting 89 minors across ten countries over several decades, according to a recent investigation revealed by the Grenoble prosecutor's office.
The Grenoble prosecutor's office has unveiled shocking details of a long-running investigation into Jacques Leveugle, a 79-year-old former teacher, who is accused of aggravated rape and sexual assault against 89 minors from 1967 to 2022. The authorities stated that Leveugle operated in various countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, the Philippines, India, Colombia, and New Caledonia, often working in educational settings for delinquent or disadvantaged youth. He has been in custody since 2023 as the investigation continues.
In a press conference, prosecutor Etienne Manteaux disclosed that Leveugle not only faces numerous allegations of pedophilia but also confessed to the murders of his mother and aunt, whom he allegedly suffocated while they were ill. This aspect of his background complicates the narrative, raising concerns about whether Leveugle may be a serial predator with a history of violence that extends beyond his professional engagements as an educator.
The revelation of these accusations has sparked widespread outrage and alarm in France, drawing attention to the mechanisms of education and oversight in various countries where Leveugle operated. As the investigation unfolds, it highlights the necessity for international cooperation in combating child abuse and ensuring the safety of vulnerable populations in educational environments. The case not only sheds light on the failures in child protection systems across countries but also calls for increased scrutiny in how educators are vetted and monitored throughout their careers.
