French authorities have disclosed the identity of 79-year-old Jacques Leveugle, who faces serious accusations of raping and sexually assaulting 89 young people from 1967 to 2022. The alleged offenses took place in various countries, including Colombia, Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, the Philippines, and India, as well as in southwestern France and New Caledonia. Authorities have initiated this disclosure to help identify other potential victims of Leveugle's pervasive offenses.

The prosecutor, Étienne Manteaux, explained during a press conference that Leveugle traveled to different nations as a teacher, presenting himself as someone who would provide educational support. In each location, he allegedly developed inappropriate sexual relationships with young individuals, which raises significant concerns about the effectiveness of safeguarding measures in educational environments worldwide.

Additional revelations came from the accused's nephew, who discovered disturbing documents on a USB drive that belonged to Leveugle. These documents reportedly contained accounts of sexual encounters with adolescents aged 13 to 17. This disturbing case not only emphasizes the vulnerability of young people but also calls into question the international mechanisms that should protect children from predatory adults in educational settings.
