Before the Indec data: a private report revealed the increase in beef prices in January

A private report revealed that beef prices in Argentina increased by 4.9% in January compared to December and saw a year-on-year rise of 73.4%.

Before the release of data from Argentina's national statistical agency, INDEC, the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA) presented figures on beef prices. According to their report, beef prices saw an average increase of 4.9% in January compared to December, with a significant year-on-year increase of 73.4%. The survey, conducted in the first and third weeks of the month across the AMBA region, Córdoba, and Rosario, included over 30,000 price samples taken weekly from butcher shops and supermarkets.

The fieldwork involved telephonic surveys of 80 butcher shops and in-person visits to 40 supermarkets in the AMBA region, while in Rosario and Córdoba, the study analyzed prices from 30 butcher shops and 15 supermarkets in each location. The results indicated that butcher shops experienced slightly higher price increases compared to supermarkets, with increases of 5.06% versus 4.4% monthly, respectively. The analysis focused on various cuts of beef, highlighting significant month-to-month price increases, particularly in the tenderloin cut.

This report comes at a crucial time as it precedes the official inflation data release by INDEC, which is expected to draw attention to the broader economic context in Argentina. The dramatic rise in beef prices not only reflects ongoing inflationary pressures but also affects consumer purchasing power and food security in the country, where beef is a staple in the diet. As such, the findings of this report will likely inform public discourse and policy discussions regarding economic measures and the agricultural sector's challenges, particularly in the face of rising costs for consumers.
