Public Prosecutor recommends immediate suspension of public contest of the Mirassol City Hall
The Public Prosecutor in Brazil has recommended the immediate suspension of a public contest for the City Hall of Mirassol due to alleged irregularities in the hiring process.
The Public Prosecutor's office in Brazil has raised serious concerns regarding a public contest held by the Mirassol City Hall. It was pointed out that the company responsible for organizing the contest was hired without a bidding process, a violation of legal procurement practices. As a result, the Public Prosecutor, Patricia Dosualdo Pelozo, recommended that the contest be suspended to investigate possible irregularities.
In response to the recommendation, the City Hall of Mirassol stated that they would suspend the contest for 45 days and initiate an internal administrative procedure to examine the allegations. They emphasized the importance of this investigation, noting that premature cancellation of the contest could lead to irreparable consequences for the candidates who participated. Additionally, there is an ongoing investigation into the legitimacy of the company that conducted the contest and its handling of registration fees, which are intended to be part of public revenue.
The suspicions raised by the Public Prosecutor’s office also include doubts about the integrity of the contest process itself, suggesting that candidates might have been adversely affected. Reports indicate that the city has already spent approximately R$ 247,000 on hiring the third-party company for the contest. This situation underscores the need for integrity and transparency in public hiring processes, especially in local governments, to maintain public trust and ensure fair treatment of candidates.
