'He went to help', says daughter of elderly man killed in a bee attack while working in the pasture

An 81-year-old man was killed by a swarm of bees while helping a neighbor apply pesticides in northern Brazil.

Gregório Alves Paranhos, an 81-year-old retired guard, tragically lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of bees while assisting a neighbor with agricultural work in the Brejão area of Araguaína, located in northern Brazil. The incident occurred as he was helping to apply pesticides using a tractor when, as reported by his daughter, Valdirene Alves, either the scent of the pesticide or an incident involving a branch knocked by the tractor provoked the aggressive bees.

The bee attack took place on a Saturday afternoon, resulting in not only Gregório's death, but also injuries to two other individuals, including a 43-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, who were subsequently taken to a nearby healthcare facility for treatment. Valdirene expressed that her father was experienced in country life and had previously managed bee stings without suffering allergic reactions, highlighting the unusual severity of this particular encounter with the bees that ultimately led to tragedy.

Witnesses to the attack recounted the chaotic scene, noting how the swarm of bees became uncontrollably aggressive. The local community is now left in shock, grappling with the loss of a man who was known for his willingness to help others in need, particularly in agricultural tasks. This incident underscores the potential dangers associated with rural work, especially when it involves encountering wildlife like bees in their natural habitats.
