La Défense, Vitry-sur-Seine, Nantes, Tours... These 8 Monoprix stores that will be sold or closed

The management of Monoprix has announced the closure or sale of 8 stores, causing concern among unions.

Monoprix, a major retail chain in France, has revealed plans to either close or sell a total of eight stores, a decision that has prompted worry from worker unions associated with the Casino Group, which owns various brands including Monoprix. The announcement came during an extraordinary committee meeting where management detailed their intentions for the chain's operations amid a challenging retail environment.

The specific sites affected by this restructuring include five Monoprix stores located in key areas such as La Défense, Vitry-sur-Seine, Porte de Chatillon, Nantes, and Tours. In addition, three other stores are set to be sold in Chatou, Argenteuil, and Le Pecq. There are also plans for two smaller Monop’ stores to either close or change ownership, along with the transition of 11 other Monop’ stores to a franchise model, which will allow an historic partner to operate them, representing a significant shift in their market strategy.

This development illustrates the ongoing adjustments within the French retail landscape, as chains like Monoprix adapt to evolving consumer habits and economic pressures. The implications of these decisions not only highlight the struggles faced by physical retail establishments but also raise concerns about job security for employees in the affected locations, as management seeks to streamline operations and remain competitive in the market.
