Council recommends replacement of hospital management in Teresina after allegations
The Health Council of Teresina has recommended the replacement of the administrative team at the Municipal Hospital Dr. Alberto Neto following accusations of misconduct and poor patient care.
The Health Council of Teresina (CMS) has recommended to the Municipal Health Foundation (FMS) the replacement of the administrative team at the Hospital Municipal Dr. Alberto Neto, commonly referred to as the Hospital do Dirceu. This recommendation comes after serious allegations surfaced, including claims of moral harassment against staff, the use of expired medications, and a patientβs death allegedly resulting from inadequate care. Families of the deceased patient have raised concerns about the quality of treatment being provided at the facility.
The recommendation was officially listed in the DiΓ‘rio Oficial de Teresina on Monday, September 9. In response, the Municipal Health Foundation issued a statement confirming that they were notified of the recommendation on Tuesday, September 10. While the FMS denies the existence of issues regarding medication or HVAC systems, they acknowledged that an investigation into the remaining allegations will be conducted. The president of the Council, Rodrigo Saraiva, mentioned that inspections were carried out at the hospital at the end of 2025, revealing several irregularities, particularly in the hospital's climate control systems and receiving numerous complaints from staff.
This situation highlights significant concerns about the quality of healthcare services in public institutions in Brazil. The ongoing issues at the Hospital do Dirceu reflect broader systemic problems within the public health sector, raising questions about the management and regulation of facilities tasked with providing essential health services. As investigations proceed, the response from the Municipal Health Foundation will be critical in addressing these concerns and restoring trust in public health services in Teresina.
