Said no to starting regulatory work on a new tunnel under Hardangervidda
The Norwegian Parliament rejected a proposal to initiate regulatory work for a new tunnel on Rv. 7 over Hardangervidda, despite support from the Conservative Party and the Progress Party.
Today, the Norwegian Parliament, known as Stortinget, voted against a proposal to start regulatory work for a new tunnel along Rv. 7 over Hardangervidda. The proposal received backing primarily from the Conservative Party and the Progress Party; however, it failed to gain support from other political parties, leading to a final vote of 43 in favor and 58 against. This decision effectively halts efforts that could have progressed towards constructing the tunnel, which was seen as a potential solution to improve winter travel safety and protect local wildlife, particularly the wild reindeer population.
