GEMI: A sample inspection team for ensuring compliance with sanction procedures
A new sample inspection team will be established to ensure the proper enforcement of fines among businesses unregistered with the General Commercial Registry in Greece.
To guarantee the appropriate and uniform adherence to sanction procedures for non-compliant businesses registered with the General Commercial Registry (GEMI), a sample inspection team is being formed within the Ministry of Development's General Secretariat for Commerce. This initiative aims to supervise the 59 GEMI services provided by local chambers across Greece and to ensure legal compliance in their operations.
The newly established team will comprise four sub-groups, each consisting of five members, tasked with overseeing approximately 15 chambers. These sub-groups will employ an electronic fine management system to monitor compliance efficiently. An oversight committee will be assigned to address any issues or discrepancies that arise during the inspections, ensuring that the enforcement measures are effective and fair.
The formation of this inspection team comes following the deadline of January 31, when businesses were required to settle their pending matters with GEMI without facing penalties. This creates a critical environment for the government, as it emphasizes transparency and accountability in business administration while enhancing compliance with the regulatory framework. Without proper adherence, businesses may face increased scrutiny and enforcement actions moving forward.
