DIMEA imposes fines of over 1 million euros on 5 companies for profit margin violations

The Independent Authority for the Regulation of Markets and Protection of Consumers in Greece has fined five companies a total of 1.05 million euros for exceeding the allowed gross profit margin.

The Independent Authority for the Regulation of Markets and Protection of Consumers (DIMEA) in Greece has levied fines totaling 1.05 million euros against five companies after an extensive review of compliance with legal profit margin limits. This action is rooted in Article 54 of Law 5045/2023, aimed at protecting consumer interests by ensuring companies do not excessively increase their profit margins. The companies affected include prominent entities such as Lidl Hellas, Nestle Hellas, and Alpha Vita.

The fines were specifically assigned to Lidl Hellas (€670,925), Nestle Hellas (€144,700), Alpha Vita Vasiloopoulos (€109,900), Market in AEBE (€72,370), and Flora Food Greece (€52,870). These penalties were imposed due to violations involving a total of 65 product codes that exceeded the legally established limits. DIMEA's extensive checks included reviewing 3,168 product codes, comparing their gross profit margins from 2023 to 2025 against levels prior to December 31, 2021, highlighting the authority’s commitment to rigorous market oversight.

This enforcement action underscores the Greek government's ongoing efforts to curb inflation and protect consumers by ensuring fair pricing practices within the marketplace. As the country grapples with economic pressures, ensuring compliance with profit margin regulations becomes increasingly pertinent to maintain consumer trust and market stability.
