'Oh God! Finance Minister Doesn’t Know Ram Ji', Akhilesh Taunts

Akhilesh Yadav criticized the central government for its budget during the Lok Sabha discussion, claiming it neglects the poor, farmers, and laborers while mocking the ruling party's connection to Hindu symbols.

During a discussion in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party, launched a scathing attack against the central government and the Uttar Pradesh administration regarding the recently presented budget. He labeled the budget as directionless, asserting that it benefits neither the poor, farmers, nor laborers. He expressed concerns that the government has shifted from a focus on self-sufficiency and indigenous languages to increasingly leaning towards unilateral trade agreements, particularly with the United States. His remarks come amidst continuous interruptions from members of the ruling party.

In his critique, Akhilesh Yadav took an indirect jab at the BJP by referencing Arun Govil, the actor who portrayed Ram in the famous TV series 'Ramayan'. He made fun of the government's proposal to rename the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to 'Vibhishan-ji Ram Ji'. Akhilesh suggested that the Finance Minister should clarify the situation regarding MGNREGA directly in the House and absurdly stated that the true representation of 'Ram Ji' is being sidelined, referring to the decision-making in the government.

This political exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between the opposition and the ruling party in India, particularly surrounding economic policies and social identity. Akhilesh's comments underscore the perception among many that the current government is ignoring significant segments of society like farmers and laborers while trying to leverage religious iconography for political gain, which raises questions about governance priorities and accountability in budgetary matters.
