Close Watch on Delhi-NCR's AQI, 46 More Monitoring Stations to be Established
The CAQM is planning to install 46 new air quality monitoring stations in Delhi-NCR to enhance the monitoring of air pollution.
In response to the ongoing air pollution issue in Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has decided to enhance air quality monitoring by establishing 46 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS). This initiative aims to provide real-time data on air quality, facilitating the identification of pollution sources and enabling timely interventions to improve air quality in the region.
Currently, there are 84 operational CAAQMS stations in Delhi-NCR, with 40 located in Delhi, and the remaining spread across Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The addition of 46 new monitoring stations will significantly increase the number of air quality monitoring devices in the region, thereby improving the precision of pollution tracking and the effectiveness of measures taken to combat poor air quality.
The CAQM has strategically planned the deployment of these new stations, having already established six in Delhi. The effort reflects a scientific approach to addressing the air quality concerns prevalent in the area, underscoring the urgency of the situation as citizens grapple with air pollution's health impacts. With these enhancements, the CAQM aims to position itself better to manage the air quality crisis and better protect the health of the residents of Delhi and NCR.
