Nora Ikstena's beloved Perkons has found a home. The new owner Kristiana Dimitere talks about the arrival of another dog in the family
Kristiana Dimitere shares how she welcomed Perkons, the dog of the late writer Nora Ikstena, into her home after losing her previous dog, Brina.
After the loss of her beloved dog Brina, Kristiana Dimitere felt a great emptiness in her life, and her family encouraged her to adopt another dog. During a segment on Latvian television's show 'Paw on the Heart', Kristiana recounted how she grieved Brina, often visiting her burial site, when her son-in-law brought in a new dog resembling Brina. Named Aivars, the new dog quickly adapted to his new home and brought joy back into Kristiana's life.
Recently, just before writer Nora Ikstena's passing, Kristiana agreed to take in Perkons, Nora's dog, to ensure he was not left alone during Nora's illness. Kristiana expressed her initial surprise at having another dog, as she was focusing on settling in with Aivars. However, the decision to take in Perkons came from a desire to support Nora and to ensure the dog's well-being, reflecting deep empathy during a difficult time.
The story highlights both the bond between humans and their pets as well as the importance of companionship during times of loss and transition. Kristianaโs willingness to take in yet another dog underscores a sense of community and support for her friend Nora during her health struggles, showcasing the emotional landscapes that accompany such life changes.
