Barriers blocking flood-prone areas during rain start operating in Goiânia
Automatic barriers have begun functioning in flood-prone areas of Goiânia to prevent access during rainy conditions.
In Goiânia, flood-prone areas in the Complexo Jamel Cecílio now have two automatic barriers operational, which were installed by the city government. These barriers form part of a monitoring system aimed at detecting flood risks and guiding drivers during rainy periods by blocking access to the most critical points, such as the Marginal Botafogo. This initiative began functioning on Sunday (8) and represents a proactive step by the municipality to mitigate flooding impacts.
According to officials, this sophisticated system incorporates cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence technology to monitor vehicle flow actively. In addition to the barriers, LED panels are integrated into the system to provide real-time information about road conditions. The city's mayor, Sandro Mabel, emphasized that the operation of these barriers can be activated remotely or automatically, enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of the system.
It is expected that a total of 27 monitoring totems will be installed throughout Goiânia, with five located specifically in the Complexo Jamel Cecílio. This initiative not only aims to improve traffic management during adverse weather conditions but also highlights the city's commitment to embracing technology in public safety and infrastructure management, thereby protecting residents from the dangers posed by flooding.
