The municipality of Jönköping, Sweden, has taken the unprecedented step of self-reporting to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) due to serious deficiencies found at one of its elderly care facilities. Among the alarming incidents reported, it was revealed that an employee had slapped an elderly resident. The municipality's oversight identified flaws in staff interactions, adherence to procedures, and overall competence, along with instances where alarms regarding the residents' safety were neglected.

Jenny Wiberg Larsson, the area manager for elderly care, expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing that the elderly have the right to feel secure, treated with respect, and free from anxiety in their own homes.
