21 people are competing for the position of the head of the Statistics Department

Twenty-one candidates have applied for the position of head of the Statistics Department in Estonia, with initial interviews for the second round now underway.

In Estonia, the recruitment process for the head of the Statistics Department has attracted 21 applicants. The candidates submitted their applications by the January 12 deadline, following a public competition announced by the Top Executive Competence Centre of the State Chancellery back in December. The second round of interviews has commenced, focusing on those who have advanced past the initial screening process.

According to Liisa Tagel, the government's media advisor, the selection process is now entering its crucial second phase, where first interviews with shortlisted candidates are taking place. The competition for this position is keen, as it requires a master's degree or a degree deemed equivalent, as well as at least five years of managerial experience in an organization or institution. Candidates must also have a high proficiency in English (minimum C1 level) and meet the competencies outlined in the public service executive competence model.

In addition to educational and professional requirements, candidates are expected to have access to state secrets or the willingness to apply for such clearance. Among the additional requirements, the applicants are also required to submit an essay on statistics, reflecting their analytical abilities and understanding of the field. This rigorous selection process underscores the importance of the role in shaping statistical policy and practice in Estonia, which is vital for informed decision-making in governance and public administration.
