FG constructs 80-bed clinics in Gombe to tackle maternal deaths
The Nigerian Federal Government has inaugurated two new maternity centers in Gombe State to address the issue of maternal mortality.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a project aimed at reducing maternal mortality in Gombe State through the construction of two new maternity centers and a medical store. These facilities, built by the North-East Development Commission, include a 40-bed capacity maternity clinic located in Bogo, Akko Local Government Area and another equivalent facility in Billiri Local Government Area. Both centers are well-equipped with essential health services including delivery rooms and dispensaries to support maternal health needs.
During the handover ceremony of these newly constructed facilities, Uba Maigari-Ahmadu, the Minister of State for Regional Development, urged the Gombe State Government and the local community to optimally utilize these resources. The initiative is part of a broader commitment by President Bola Tinubu's administration to uplift the health outcomes for mothers and children within the region. This highlights the government's focus on addressing healthcare challenges that critically affect women, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
The introduction of these maternity centers is expected to provide a significant impact on maternal health by improving access to healthcare services in a region that has been challenged by high maternal mortality rates. The government calls upon the beneficiaries to effectively engage with these facilities, ensuring that the intentions behind their establishment translate into tangible improvements in maternal health services and support for families in Gombe State.
