'We cannot issue orders until the government...,' PAK court rejects demand for meeting with Imran Khan

Pakistan's Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking an immediate meeting with imprisoned former PM Imran Khan, emphasizing the necessity of issuing a notice to the government first.

On Monday, Pakistan's Supreme Court rejected a petition filed by senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Latif Khosa, which sought an immediate meeting with the imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The court stated that it cannot issue any orders without prior notice to the government. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi highlighted the procedural requirement that any decision involving a legislative body must involve notification of the government before any judicial orders can be contemplated.

During the hearings, the Chief Justice reinforced the need for proper legal protocol, indicating that no relief could be granted without ensuring the petition's eligibility for hearing. This is critical as the matters related to Imran Khan's case are also being adjudicated in other courts, and any action by the Supreme Court must consider these ongoing litigations. The court has, however, issued a notice to the government concerning the demand for a meeting with Khan, set for a follow-up on Tuesday.

This decision underscores the complexities within Pakistan’s judicial processes, especially regarding high-profile political figures like Imran Khan. The ruling reflects the intersection of legal proceedings and political implications in a case that has significant ramifications for the PTI party and their strategic efforts to engage with Khan amidst his incarceration. As the situation develops, the court's forthcoming decisions will be pivotal in determining the political landscape in Pakistan, particularly for Khan and his supporters.
