US Vice President James David Venss arrived in Armenia on Monday, marking the first time a high-ranking official from the US administration has visited the country. This visit comes as part of a larger diplomatic effort to underscore US support for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as Venss is also scheduled to visit Azerbaijan on Tuesday. The White House stated that the visit aims to bolster the reconciliation process between the two nations following ongoing conflicts.

During his arrival in Yerevan, Venss held a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, where both leaders signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. Venss announced a significant investment of nine billion dollars by the US into Armenia's nuclear energy sector, indicating a deepening of bilateral relations and a strategic interest in the country's energy resources.

Analysts suggest that Venss's visit signifies a strengthening of US influence in the South Caucasus region, particularly given the historical context of US-Azerbaijan relationships. The absence of a visit to Georgia, a country previously regarded as a key US ally in the region, has also raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about shifting alliances and priorities for US foreign policy under the current administration.
