Workers report employers for assaults in MT lodging
Workers in Nova Guarita, MT, have accused their employers of physical assaults within their lodging facility.
Three workers aged 22, 23, and 34 have reported being physically assaulted by their employers inside their accommodation in Nova Guarita, Mato Grosso. The incident, which has been formally recorded in a police report, occurred on Saturday when one of the victims was attacked while taking a shower. The local Civil Police have opened an investigation into charges of threat and bodily injury, although the motive for the assault has not yet been disclosed.
According to reports from law enforcement, the Military Police received an alert about the incident at the lodging facility. However, as the officers were preparing to depart from their base, the victims arrived to file their complaint. One of the workers recounted that he had just returned from work and was taking a shower when one of the employers forcibly entered the bathroom and started attacking him with a machete. The violent nature of the attack escalated as he fled, encountering two other employersβone wielding a bat and another brandishing a firearm.
This case raises significant concerns regarding labor rights and workplace safety in the region, particularly in relation to the treatment of workers living in employer-provided housing. The police investigation will likely scrutinize the circumstances surrounding this violent incident, as well as the broader implications for labor practices in the area, underlining the urgent need for protective measures for vulnerable worker populations in Brazil.
