Nigeria’s free zones can boost EU trade, says NEPZA
Nigeria's Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has urged the European Union to incorporate Nigeria's Special Economic Zones into European supply chains to enhance trade relations.
The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has emphasized the potential of Nigeria's Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to enhance trade relations between Nigeria and the European Union. During a recent meeting held in Abuja with European ambassadors and members of the EU, NEPZA's Managing Director, Olufemi Ogunyemi, articulated a vision for the integration of Nigeria’s free zones into Europe’s value chains. This integration is seen as vital for both boosting economic growth and reinforcing industrial cooperation at a time when global economies are facing significant shifts.
Ogunyemi highlighted that Nigeria’s Free Trade Zones could emerge as key platforms for deepening economic ties between Europe and Africa. The context of his address was set against the backdrop of important discussions concerning international trade dynamics and the necessity for Europe to align with emerging markets, particularly in Africa. Ogunyemi’s remarks hold particular significance as countries are realigning their trade strategies, and Africa is being recognized for its potential in global supply chains.
The call for collaboration also underscores Nigeria's intent to increase its attractiveness for foreign investment and participation in global markets. By strategically connecting with the EU, Nigeria hopes to leverage its unique position as a gateway for trade in West Africa, thereby fostering greater industrialization and comprehensive economic development, which could have lasting impacts on both regions' economies.
