Heifer Rescued After Being Trapped for 15 Days at the Top of a Quarry in Carangola

A heifer was rescued in Brazil after being trapped for more than two weeks at the top of a quarry.

A Nelore heifer was successfully rescued on Monday, September 9, after being stranded for over 15 days at the top of a quarry in Carangola, located in the Zona da Mata region of Brazil. The rescue operation was conducted collaboratively by the Fire Department of Muriaรฉ and the Civil Defense. They discovered the weakened and frightened animal at a site known as Pico do Pitassilgo, where it had suffered from a lack of food during its prolonged entrapment.

To facilitate the safe rescue of the heifer, rescuers utilized chainsaws, hoes, and sickles to clear a path through the vegetation and created an improvised bridge. This meticulous effort allowed them to guide the frightened animal away from the dangerous rocky cliff and into a nearby pasture where it could be safe. The successful extraction of the heifer was a testament to the dedicated teamwork of the rescue units and their innovative approach to the challenging situation.

After the rescue, the owner of the heifer was notified by phone and given advice on how to care for the animal following such an extended ordeal. Thankfully, despite the frightening experience and the risks involved, the heifer was returned safely, without any serious injuries. This incident highlights the commitment of local emergency services in addressing not just human emergencies, but also coming to the aid of animals in distress in their communities.
