PHOTOS ⟩ Bloody tracks in the snow led to a shocking discovery in Sauel

In early February, a blood trail in the snow guided animal rescuers to a severely injured stray cat named Frosty in Sauel, Estonia.

In early February, rescuers from Cats Help MTÜ were alerted to a stray cat in distress in Sauel, Estonia, following a blood trail in the snow. This grisly discovery led them to Frosty, a neglected feline suffering from severe injuries, including raw and bleeding paws. The presence of blood in the snow made it easier for the rescuers to locate the visibly suffering cat, who was in critical condition and needed immediate medical attention.

Frosty was taken to Haabersti animal clinic, where veterinarians determined the extent of his injuries. The cat had worn-down skin on his paws, bleeding wounds, missing nails on one paw, and puncture wounds between his toes, indicating he may have tried desperately to escape a trap or restraint. Moreover, significant frostbite was evident on his other paws, alongside poor dental health that would require substantial veterinary intervention once his paws healed.

The initial veterinary bill for Frosty reached 350 euros, though Cats Help MTÜ anticipates additional costs for his extensive dental work, which could total around 500 euros. While Frosty's case is one of the more troubling ones they have encountered, it highlights the urgent need for animal welfare and rescue efforts in the region amidst reports of other similar cases.
