Indra will continue to support the AVE to Mecca for five more years

Indra will extend its support for the AVE high-speed line between Mecca and Medina for an additional five years, following Saudi Arabia's decision to continue Renfe's operation until 2038.

Indra has announced that it will continue to provide support for the high-speed AVE line between Mecca and Medina for an additional five years, due to the extension of Renfe's operational license until 2038 granted by the Saudi authorities. This agreement allows Indra to maintain operations of various technological systems which include traffic management and signaling, telecommunications, ticket sales and reservations, access control, security, and IT technologies for the railway line. The extension of Indra's collaboration with Renfe indicates the growing role of technological support in the realm of international rail systems.

The extension of the operational license not only benefits Indra but also signifies a substantial economic impact with an estimated additional revenue of around €1.5 billion for Renfe. This financial boost is essential as Renfe plans to sell approximately 20 Talgo trains to Saudi Arabia, enhancing its equipment and presence in the region. The ongoing collaboration underlines the increasing trade relationships between Spain and Saudi Arabia in advanced technologies and infrastructures.

This development could also pave the way for further international projects for Indra and Renfe, demonstrating the capacity of Spanish companies to engage in significant technological partnerships abroad, especially in regions focused on infrastructural development like the Middle East. The investment in high-speed rail showcases efforts to modernize transport networks in Saudi Arabia, which is a cornerstone of their broader economic diversification plans under Vision 2030, aimed at reducing dependence on oil.
