Fifteen people were injured in the Pedras Altas district of Capim Grosso, northern Bahia, after being attacked by a swarm of bees. The incident occurred near a dam along BR-407 on Saturday, where the swarm had established itself in a cavity beneath the stairs of a kiosk. Reports indicate that the bee attack affected people within a 400-meter radius, particularly at a nearby gas station and kiosks by the roadside.
Emergency response involved local agricultural technicians who were called by the cityβs authorities to safely remove the bee swarm. Four of the injured individuals were taken to the local Emergency Care Unit (UPA), but thankfully, they have since been discharged. The quick action by local officials and technicians likely prevented more severe injuries and allowed for timely care of the affected individuals.
This incident raises awareness about the potential dangers associated with bee swarms, especially in populated areas where people might unknowingly come close to them. It also emphasizes the importance of having quick response mechanisms, such as local technical expertise available to deal with wildlife-related emergencies, ensuring community safety in the future.
