The historic sabre of General José de San Martín has returned to military custody after years in the National Historical Museum. This transition was formalized with decree 81/2026, which revokes the previous 2015 decree that returned the sabre to the museum under Cristina Kirchner. The decision was announced during an event presided over by President Javier Milei, marking a significant shift in the handling of this important artifact.

Visitors can now view San Martín's sabre for free at the Regimiento de Granaderos a Caballo 'General San Martín' in Buenos Aires, from Wednesday to Sunday and holidays, between the hours of 11 am and 7 pm. The location is situated on Avenida Luis María Campos 554 in the Palermo neighborhood, and no prior registration is required for entry. This opportunity to see the sabre allows the public to engage with a crucial part of Argentina's military history.

The formal handover of the sabre took place in San Lorenzo, Santa Fe, the site of the battle that marked the beginning of San Martín's military career in the region on February 3, 1813. The relocation of the sabre not only reflects a change in governmental policy regarding national artifacts but also emphasizes the continued reverence for San Martín as a national hero and a symbol of Argentine independence, fostering national pride and historical awareness among citizens.
