Patient suffered, but hospitals did not want to accept him. "I had no strength to move or speak"

Anil, an Indian immigrant living in Torun, Poland, faced major challenges when seeking medical help for severe headaches, ultimately leading to critical care only after insistence from his wife.

Anil, originally from India, has been living in Torun, Poland for several years after coming to the country for his studies and now works as a chef. His wife, Zuzanna, shares that if it weren't for her persistence in advocating for Anil's medical care, the family could have faced an unimaginable tragedy. When Anil began experiencing intense headaches during a cold snap, medical services were overwhelmed and his symptoms were initially dismissed by hospital staff.

On January 18, Anil's situation took a dire turn as he suffered from severe headaches that worsened despite taking pain relievers. With most clinics closed and emergency services strained, Zuzanna made the critical decision to take him to the Emergency Department at the Mikołaj Kopernik City Specialist Hospital in Torun. Upon their arrival, Anil was met with skepticism from the registration staff, who didn't think he required immediate medical attention, prompting Zuzanna to request a written refusal of treatment before any further action was taken.

It was only after this insistence that Anil was finally given a CT scan, revealing a serious inflammatory condition that warranted medical intervention. This situation highlights not only the challenges faced by immigrants in accessing healthcare but also raises essential questions about the adequacy of emergency medical protocols during times of crisis.
