Stolen wheat worth ₹100 in 1980, arrested after 45 years
A man in Madhya Pradesh has been arrested for wheat theft that occurred over 45 years ago.
In a remarkable case from Madhya Pradesh, a 65-year-old man named Salim was arrested for a wheat theft that took place in 1980. The theft, worth ₹100, involved stealing high-quality wheat from nearby fields in the Balsamund Kakad area when Salim was just 20 years old. The incident had remained unresolved for decades, with warrants issued against Salim but no arrest made until now.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Shweta Shukla informed that following the theft, Salim fled and later built a life running a grocery store in the neighboring town of Bag with his son. The case lingered in court for years, highlighting the often prolonged nature of legal proceedings in India. Despite the significant time gap, law enforcement demonstrated that justice can prevail, regardless of how much time has passed.
The arrest came during a wider manhunt for another suspect involved in the same case, as cyber cell assistance helped police trace Salim to his shop. This incident underscores not just the effectiveness of long-term police investigations but also raises questions about the implications of retribution and justice over time, especially for crimes that may seem minor but are taken seriously by legal authorities.
