The Estonian Women's Literature Prize is Back

The Estonian Women's Literature Prize will be awarded again this year, with nominees announced at the end of March and the winner revealed at a ceremony on April 28, offering a prize of 15,000 euros.

The Estonian Women's Literature Prize, established last year, is set to continue in its second year, with nominees expected to be revealed at the end of March. The award, which carries a significant prize of 15,000 euros, honors the high-quality work of female authors in Estonia, highlighting their contributions to literature. The official announcement of the laureate will take place during a ceremonial event on April 28.

A jury composed of notable figures in the literary community, including Sirel Heinloo, Tiina Põldmaa, Eva Nooni, Maia Tammjärv, and Mari Peegel, has already begun its evaluation process. According to jury member Tiina Põldmaa, last year showcased a diverse range of works by women writers across various genres and historical moments, with a distinct personal narrative emerging from the submissions. The jury's focus lies in assessing the creativity and sensitivity with which women's experiences are portrayed in the literature, while also valuing the skillfulness of language and the beauty of the Estonian language itself.

The Estonian Women's Literature Society administers the award, affirming its commitment to recognizing and supporting the creative journeys of Estonian female writers. The first laureate was Carolina Pihelgas, awarded in 2025 for her novel "Lõikejo," setting a high standard for literary excellence among women in Estonia. This ongoing recognition aims to promote women's voices in literature and enhance their visibility in the broader cultural landscape of the country.
